The Spartan in Austerity Central project was a total immersion - das experiment (aka method research) project that I conducted from November 2012 to March 2013 in some of the rougher areas of Athens.
Its aim was to observe from within and in raw format the systemics of that area: Patissia and Agios Panteleimonas, areas already in urban decay before the 2009 Greek Euro crisis hit, made much worse by it. Athens' "Bronx", in some ways, or 'Detroit"?
The methodology was to live there, experience first hand,"live" it, for 120 days. Feel, be in it, not merely observe. Not a detached observer, a participant, a guinea pig, in the "experiment".
Warning: The videos produced by handcam do have a rather depressing and many a scary Blair Witch Project feel. But what else would one expect when the country is -20% in GDP and with a 25+% jobless rate, so the areas recorded are much worse off than that? It is worse than the 1929+ Great Depression in the USA!
